There are two versions of FileMaker server software. FileMaker Server lets you share your databases with unrivaled availability, security, and performance, over the network or on your website. But if you want up to 100 simultaneous users to access a database that has been published using Instant Web Publishing or if you want to use an ODBC or JDBC client to submit SQL queries or statements to a FileMaker Pro database, you'll want FileMaker Server 9 Advanced.

FileMaker has four key licensing programmes available: VLA,SLA, AVLA, ASLA. Educational institutes and registered charities can avail of discounted pricing under these programs.

You may choose any combination of the latest FileMaker products including FileMaker, FileMaker Server, and FileMaker Advanced; new trade-up or upgrade licence, to meet the 10-unit mimimum volume licence requirement. Once the initial order for 10 licences has been placed a customer may re-order just one licence.
- Educational VLA's are also available.
- Subscription is available to customers using the current version of a FileMaker product with Upgrade Insurance for a 2-year period. This allows the customer to secure updates and upgrades that are released over the term of the agreement.
- The minimum requirement for subscription is 10 units.

The SLA license includes FileMaker Pro, FileMaker Pro Advanced, FileMaker Server, FileMaker Server Advanced and FileMaker Mobile.
The minimum requirement for both Commercial and Educational Site Licenses is 50-users and enable you to buy one license for either the total number of employees or computers, whichever is less, and get a site license for the latest versions of FileMaker software that can be deployed throughout the company.

The AVLA/ASLA programme includes all the benefits of a VLA/SLA but offers the added feature of the flexibility to purchase on an annual basis rather than outright.
The discounts available are the same as the VLA/SLA programme but the payment is only 33% of the equivalent VLA/SLA price per year with a minimum contractual term of three years.
