Essential Education Resources

Microsoft in Education Overview

Globally our vision is simple - the development of a worldwide community of students, educators and lifelong learners, who realise their potential any time, any place, on any device, through the power of technology.

In real terms this vision translates to providing increased levels of access to students and teachers to technical devices that they can use in the classroom, in their homes and in their play and development environments. These devices will be used as an integral part of the learning experience across all curriculum types and will be used as a tool for learning and for enjoyment. The challenge is how do we, collectively - as government and industry - help to deliver upon this objective?

Schools

Microsoft recognizes that technology in education can be a powerful catalyst to promote learning that changes lives, families, communities, and ultimately nations. The Microsoft Partners in Learning initiative supports our dual commitment to advance the quality of education and catalyze economic progress.

  • Approximately 2.5 million educators in more than 100 countries have been trained through the Partners in Learning curriculum.
  • More than 60 million students have been reached worldwide.

Partners in Learning builds partnerships with governments and schools, helping educators to integrate technology into daily teaching, learning, and research. Since the initiative's start in 2004, we've reached several important milestones.

Through Partners in Learning, Microsoft is working with government leaders, ministries of education, and other key stakeholders to offer a spectrum of educational resources, including tools, programs, and practices.

Has your school ever received donated personal computers that were delivered without the appropriate documentation and CDs for the original Windows® operating system?

Microsoft's Fresh Start for Donated Computers program helps primary and secondary (K-12) schools ensure its donated computers are properly licensed—so students and teachers can gain additional access to technology.

Select Academic Programme

If you're able to forecast your software needs over a three-year period, you can take advantage of our flexible, volume-based licensing program for academic institutions. Designed to help reduce the total cost of software ownership, Academic Select is a transactional model with regular monthly confirmations of new licences and flexible payment options.

This is the recommended licensing agreement for all institutions wanting a perpetual licence. Colleges and Universities are typically of sufficient size to take advantage of a Select agreement. Schools and smaller institutions should contact their Local Authority, many of whom are Master Select Agreement holders and therefore have access to Select pricing on behalf of their schools and other educational establishments.

  • Simple, convenient licence acquisition
  • Extensive range of products
  • Software Assurance option
  • Optional Student Select programme

Partners in Learning (PILSA)

Microsoft’s Commitment to a Lifetime of Opportunity

Everyone should have the opportunity to realise their full potential in the classroom, and the world at large. Empowered with the knowledge that can only come from a good education, individuals are better equipped to enjoy a more fulfilling life both at home and in the workplace

Computers have a powerful role to play in making this vision reality. The Microsoft® Partners in Learning initiative aims to aid digital inclusion and overcome the fact that not every school and every country has easy, affordable access to this technology. It also provides the framework for teachers and students to acquire the skills they need to make the best use of that technology in teaching and learning.

The goals for Partners in Learning are:

  • Empowering schools to significantly raise the level of information communication technology (ICT) literacy amongst their staff;
  • Supporting teachers and schools in developing an internal culture of innovation
  • Working with schools to prepare students for the digital work place.

The Microsoft Learning Suite combines familiar applications with new software that not only helps teachers organise, schedule, and set exciting and stimulating lessons while meeting the needs of the curriculum, but also helps students get more out of education.

As well as providing them with easy-to-use, powerful desktop tools, Learning Suite supports teamwork, and encourages learners to discover and research individually, or in groups.
